Two drives in 2026

Prayagraj is in Uttar Pradesh. We opened two Times of India reports (May and July 2026) and one Hindustan report in Hindi (July 2026). They are dated and attributed. They are news reports, so please ask the Prayagraj RTO what applies to your buses.

• A drive after a state direction (April 2026). The Times of India (2 May 2026) reported a special enforcement drive in Prayagraj following government directions. Schools were asked to upload their vehicles' details on the Uttar Pradesh school vehicle portal so the RTO could verify them.
• What verification found. The report says gaps were found in fitness and insurance, and in fittings such as CCTV cameras, GPS, first-aid kits and fire extinguishers. The RTO sent notices to school managements and vehicle owners with time to fix the gaps.
• A drive when schools reopened (July 2026). The Times of India (3 July 2026) reported that the RTO started a weeklong drive to help schools bring their vehicles into line before stricter enforcement began. Officers visited schools and advised managements to renew fitness papers and permits.
• The first day. Buses that had failed fitness tests and had expired permits were seized on the spot, and buses carrying more students than their permitted seating were fined, with a warning of stricter action for repeat violations.
• Hindustan's report (July 2026). The Hindi daily covered the intensive drive too, with the RTO and enforcement teams visiting schools to tell operators and managements to follow traffic rules.

Schools were asked to upload their vehicles' details. A school that keeps records in one place can do this faster. Ask any seller: Can the school export a bus list with papers and fittings?

Time to fix the gaps

Notices gave schools time to fix gaps before stricter checks began. Ask: Can the school keep a list of what each bus needs fixed and the date it was cleared?

More students than seats

Buses with more students than their permitted seating were fined. An RFID roster shows how many boarded on each trip. Ask: Can the school see the number on board while the bus is on the road?

Heat, fog and fair-time crowds

Prayagraj has hot summers, foggy winter mornings and big fair-time crowds near the rivers. This is general knowledge, not a report. Ask: What does a parent see when the bus is late?
