Lucknow is the capital of Uttar Pradesh, so state school transport orders reach schools here first-hand. The report below is dated and attributed. It is not a full list of rules, so please ask your Lucknow RTO what applies to your buses.

Strict enforcement order (March 2026). Hindustan Times reported that the Uttar Pradesh government ordered strict enforcement of school transport norms under the Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules, 1998, which have special provisions for school vehicles. The order followed concerns from the transport department that a key reason for school vehicle accidents is poor fitness or faulty paperwork.
Monitoring portal. Schools of all boards were asked to upload accurate details of their vehicles, drivers and safety compliance to the school vehicle monitoring portal, and the report says responsibility would lie with school management and principals if they did not. The portal is the Integrated School Vehicle Monitoring Portal (ISVMP), run by the Office of the Transport Commissioner.
Which vehicles. The report says a school vehicle means any vehicle owned by a school or hired on contract to carry students, and names school-owned buses, contracted private buses and vans hired by parents.
Committees. The order repeated the role of district-level and school-level transport safety committees in monitoring inspections and holding regular review meetings. District administrations were asked to work with the transport and police departments.
