RFID Attendance System for Schools: How It Works
Last checked: 3 October 2026. Our own product, so read with that in mind. My School Ride is a product of Satcop India Pvt. Ltd, the company behind this website. We show where each fact comes from. How we compare
Quick answer
An RFID attendance system records a student when a card is read by a reader. There is no paper register to fill in. As described on the Satcop India website, My School Ride uses RFID or UHF cards and readers, often with the card built into the student ID, to record presence on campus or on the school bus. Records appear in real time, and reports go to the school.
How it works: card, reader, record
- Issue cards or tags. RFID or UHF credentials, often built into ID cards.
- Place readers. Readers can go on the bus handrail and/or at school gates.
- Sync to the apps. Records reach admins in real time, with optional alerts for parents.
What the school gets
- Instant scan: cards are read at designated readers for immediate attendance.
- Real-time view: the school can see who is present or absent as it happens.
- Reports: by class, grade or date, ready for school systems.
- Safer journeys: visibility of students entering and leaving school grounds or the bus.
- Less paperwork: the site says it cuts manual roll calls and paper-based records.
What parents see
The parent app shows an attendance view. SMS or app alerts go out where the school enables them (terms may apply). The My School Ride website also says student pick-up and drop are logged automatically and attendance reports are generated.
RFID card or UHF tag?
An RFID card is read when the student taps it on a reader, for example on a school bus handrail. A UHF tag is detected as the student passes a gate or classroom reader. See our guide to UHF attendance systems.
Questions to ask any seller
- Where will the readers go: bus, gate, classroom?
- Can the card be part of the existing ID card?
- What happens when a student forgets the card?
- How does attendance reach our school software, and in which reports?
- What do parents see, and what do alerts cost?
- Who can see student records, and how is access controlled?
- What is in the quote: cards, readers, installation, support, GST?
What the rules say
For school buses in Maharashtra, the Gazette of 16 July 2026 asks the school and the bus or van operator to keep a daily attendance record of every student using the bus, with the time of boarding and de-boarding (rule 6C). The Gazette does not say it must be RFID, and it does not cover attendance inside the school building. We do not say any set-up meets the rules by itself. Vehicles must comply within three months from Gazette publication (16 July 2026). Ask your RTO about the date that applies to you.
What about cost?

Where My School Ride fits
My School Ride is a school bus tracking system from Satcop India Pvt. Ltd, with a parent app, a GPS device on the bus, RFID attendance and optional cameras. Bus attendance works with the same system as tracking, so the transport manager sees both in one place.
