The Times of India reported that the Ghaziabad RTO said the drive was started because of a rise in incidents involving school buses, particularly buses catching fire in different parts of the country. He said the aim is to prevent accidents by making sure vehicles that carry schoolchildren follow the prescribed safety standards.
• Directions to private schools. The same report says the transport department gave directions to all private schools on school bus safety and emergency preparedness, and that schools should make sure fire-fighting equipment is fitted and maintained in every school bus. Officials said action can be taken against schools as well as against bus owners, drivers and conductors.
• The state portal. A March 2026 Hindustan Times report says Uttar Pradesh schools were asked to put vehicle, driver and safety details on ISVMP, the state school vehicle portal.
