School Bus Tracking System vs School ERP Bus Module

Last checked: 3 October 2026. Our own product, so read with that in mind. My School Ride is a product of Satcop India Pvt. Ltd, the company behind this website. How we compare

Quick answer

A school ERP is school software that manages many jobs in one place. Some ERPs include a transport or bus module. Whether that module is enough depends on what your state requires. In Maharashtra, the official Gazette of 16 July 2026 lists what a school bus must have: a tracking device with a panic button, CCTV or video surveillance, an app for live tracking and digital attendance, and a link to the State-level monitoring platform. Use the table below to ask your ERP vendor, and any tracking vendor, the same questions.

What do we mean?

Products differ. Ask each vendor what its own system really does. We do not say any ERP is good or bad.

What the Maharashtra rule asks for

From the Gazette (rules 6B, 6C, 10(xxix), 10A and 11C):

Questions to ask your ERP vendor and your tracking vendor

These are questions, not claims. We make no statement about what any ERP does.

Frequently asked questions

Does my school ERP include bus tracking?

Some school ERPs have a transport or bus module. We cannot say whether yours does, or whether it covers what Maharashtra's rules ask for. Use the table above and ask your ERP vendor for each point in writing.

What do the Maharashtra rules need on top of an ERP?

The Gazette asks for a tracking device (VLTD) with a panic button meeting AIS-140 specifications, CCTV or video surveillance with a parent feed, an app, integration with the State-level monitoring platform, and a daily boarding and de-boarding record.

Can a bus tracking app work with my school ERP?

That depends on both systems. Ask both vendors how they share data and who is responsible if something breaks. For My School Ride, tell us which ERP you use and we will tell you whether we can connect.

Who is responsible for following the rules, the school or the bus operator?

The Gazette puts duties on both. For example, rule 6B says the transport operator and school management must ensure staff are properly appointed and verified, and rule 6C says every school and bus or van operator must maintain the daily attendance record. Ask your RTO about any other duty.

Is a digital attendance record required?

The Gazette requires a daily attendance record of every student using a school bus, with boarding and de-boarding times (rule 6C). It also asks for an app that gives digital attendance (rule 10A(2)(d)).
