The New Indian Express reported that Bengaluru schools were re-checking their transport safety after traffic police found some school bus drivers driving under the influence of alcohol. Principals quoted in the report said their buses now carry cameras and GPS devices for real-time monitoring.
Driver checks. The same report quotes schools on background and police verification checks before hiring drivers, and on alcohol checks. It says some schools admitted the need to tighten protocols, especially when transport is outsourced.
On the bus and with parents. Schools described a transport in-charge who watches the drivers, emergency contact numbers of nearby hospitals and police stations displayed in the bus, and SMS or app alerts to parents about delays.
