Chandigarh is a Union Territory, administered separately from Punjab and Haryana. Its school transport policy is the Chandigarh administration's Safe Transportation Policy for Students, called STRAPS. We could open one dated report on it. We did not find a list of STRAPS equipment rules from a source we could open, so this page does not list any. STRAPS review by the Deputy Commissioner (29 April 2026). Hindustan Times reported that the Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner held a review of STRAPS across private schools in the UT. He ordered strict action against schools that break the policy or misuse parking spaces in their premises.
Pick-up and drop-off. The report says schools with parking inside the campus should keep student pick-up and drop-off inside the campus. Where that is not possible, schools should mark dedicated zones outside for boarding and getting off. Schools were also told to use their own staff to manage traffic at opening and closing time, and to keep traffic one-way so that students do not have to cross roads.

As described on the Satcop India website, the parent app gives an alert about 2 km before the stop. Ask any seller: Can the school see where each bus is when it nears the gate, so staff are ready?

Schools were told to use their own staff to manage traffic at opening and closing time. A list of which bus arrives when helps a gate team plan. Ask: Can the transport manager see all buses on one live map, and who has access?

Hired buses and contractors

Many schools hire buses from outside operators. The school is still the one parents call. Ask the contractor: Which tracking device and app do you use? Can the school see every bus? Ask the STA: Which of the hired vehicles fall under the UT's policy?

Cold, foggy winters

Winter fog can slow morning routes in the north of India. A live map and a reminder before the stop let parents decide when to walk a child out. Ask: What does a parent see when the bus is late?
